Frogman
Spy

The Crabb
Enigma has been written as
a follow up to the successful Frogman Spy in 1989. Frogman Spy is no longer in print, however, copies may be obtained by
searching the web.
Following the
publication of Frogman Spy
the authors made their debut on television, radio and newspapers with
particular focus on the south coast. The coverage was very wide and detailed.
The outcome was long queues at well-known high street book shops, which did not
have copies of the book.
Most interesting
was the fact that the book was not listed on the bookshop’s computerised
ordering system. The authors received telephone calls stating that people were
seeking copies of the book, but none were available. One call came from a
magazine which ran an article about the book and wanted copies to sell through
their bookshop. They could not obtain copies even though the book was published
by WH Allan, a respected publisher and there were copies available for
distribution.
The authors
received more information highlighting the problem from Dr Svoboda who had
provided assistance during research. He told them:
" ... Most of
the people who lived in Chichester and Portsmouth in the 1950s were extremely
keen to read your book and I was unable to satisfy the great demand. I was
surprised that the book did not appear in the Portsmouth bookshops, as it would
certainly sell very well here. Should you wish to travel to Czechoslovakia
again, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours very
gratefully, Dr V Svoboda F.R.C.R."
The authorities
would not stop publication but they could and did initially influence those who
distribute and sell books in an attempt to stop or delay its availability.
However, media interest and public demand sought otherwise!
